Our Story
Like many small businesses, Feline Fun Factory evolved from a few starting points. Both of us are cat lovers and breeders. Playing with our cats, and watching our cats play, never gets boring – their twists, turns, high jumps, thieving, hoarding and complete engagement with a toy are a regular source of amusement.
As breeders, we wanted to share this with our kitten owners by including toys in the goody bags. Safe, robust, affordable toys that cats would want to play with were unavailable. Our solution was to design and make cat toys. Our own cats were both our best teachers and our harshest critics! Through them, we understood that fabrics, sounds, movements, looks, insides and outsides, all matters to cats!
Other breeders and cat owners reached out to us. We gladly sent toys, ensuring that cats of different breeds and backgrounds were part of our Research and Development! Through their humans, we listened to these cats, and reworked ideas, mechanics, and materials until we knew that our toys were “Approved by Cats”.
And then we received a text message, “I cannot resist buying cat toys, but it’s YOUR toys that my cats cannot resist. Start a business. Call it Feline Fun Factory!”
We did!
Playfully (and seriously) yours,
Jane and Jacqui

Jacqui Dawson
“Imagining something and then making it into a tangible object sounds a bit pedantic, but that’s kind of what I do! Cats have always been a part of my life, and I enjoy hand sewing, so making cat toys is a good match. And I do appreciate the positive feedback from cats and owners,” adds Jacqui.
Jacqui and Jane are co-owners of Feline Fun Cattery, a boarding cattery based in Pietermaritzburg,
